Gent Street

Up on the corner of Catherine Hill in the heart of Frome town centre, owner of Gent Street Sneakers, Alex, has taken his passion for trading one off, rare sneakers online and created Frome’s one stop shop for the freshest footwear from the international sneaker scene. Named after the street where he started the business from home, Alex specialises in rare and exclusive trainers which he is happy to order in at request. With a family history of leather shoe making and a successful business in the building industry, the design of Gent Street Sneakers incorporates all aspects of Alex’s life and heritage. The shop’s interior includes cool industrial touches which he has built himself and are designed to be re-configurable for small events and product launches. Offering both men's and women's styles with some crossing over as unisex models, the store also stocks cool clothing brands like Dickies in men's and women's styles. Drawing from the hottest trends in streetwear and his love for the independent community within his home town, Alex has a strong local following of sneakerheads who not only shop, but like to catch up and hang out in the contemporary streetwear store. Alex understands the need for the newest sneakers, keeping his customers up to date with blog posts of up and coming must-haves so you never miss out. Though he often works alone, Alex likes to invite young people from the area for work experience placements, incorporating their love for streetwear and sneakers into transferable skills for the future.

About

Frome

The picturesque market town of Frome lies in the heart of Somerset, surrounded by vast swathes of open farmland, chalky ridges, undulating hills and valleys and generally stunning scenery at every turn. Explore the many cobblestone streets lined with an eclectic mix of independents and you’ll find everything from interior decor, quirky antiques and vintage clothing stores to children’s boutiques, florists and cafes. On the first Sunday of each month between March and December, the streets of Frome become a pedestrian playground and the town welcomes a pop up community of producers, crafters and makers. Stroll through hundreds of stalls celebrating the best from local producers at the farmers market on Stony Street or the artisanal trinket filled suitcases and prams at the “suitcase sale” on top of Catherine Hill. This unique market celebrates the independent movers and shakers in the South West and draws thousands of visitors each year.
